When I meet with a client. One of the question I always ask them is “What is your uniform” and most often my clients respond, “A tee and some jeans”. I get it, I LOVE my denim. And rock’n a tee shirt here and there is totally fine but I try to teach my clients that not all tee’s and tanks are created equal. You have to find one’s that fit your figure and flatter your coloring. Just doing that sends you leaps and bounds ahead of looking frumpy.
First and foremost the cut of your shirt is very important. You want the neckline to flatter not only the shape of your face but the frame of your shoulder and the line of your chest. You really can’t go wrong with a deep scoop like this Michael Stars top. You want the body to fall out and away from yours so there isn’t any clinging going on.
Next you want to make sure that the sleeve shape is one that flatters you. If you have thin and/or tones arms then you can totally rock a cap sleeve. A lot of my clients aren’t super psyched about their arms so I usually recommend a 90 angle on the sleeve. And for those that want more coverage but don’t want to wear a long sleeve, the new ‘on trend’ elbow length like on this Michael Stars shirt is very flattering.
As for tanks, I’m a giant fan of the Cowl Neck Tank by Bobi Clothing. I own this one in coral but I think I need this one too! One, the cowl neck is flattering if you have a large or a tiny chest, the sleeveless cut is flattering to anyone who’s okay exposing their arms (and if you’re not, this looks great under a cardi or blazer) and lastly, they come in THE BEST and most flattering colors! Must I stress again how important color is to feel and look great!?
But if you’re a simple kind of girl and you don’t want all the fuss of a cowl, this Three Stones Tank can be a great neutral or stand alone. The straps have an interesting sheer detail while they also hide your bra straps…perfect! Sometimes the best things come in very simple and practical packages.
