In my journey of being a Personal Stylist, I find myself lucky to have the opportunity to meet so many fabulous women. That remained unchanged when I met the stunning Jennifer O’Leary. This small business owner and song bird lights up a room when she enters. It was a must that what we put on her had to reflect her bright and sunny personality. And we were going to have some fun playing dress up.
At first glance I could see that Jennifer was blessed with a feminine and curvy figure, which she attributes to her mother. Though she has a larger chest, her waist is more straight, which she also attributes to Mom. I knew that she would look amazing in the many dresses that just came in because they all have built in shape that would transform and compliment Jennifer’s figure.
We started with this beautiful Amour Vert dress. When we first put it on it looked a little shapeless and undefined but we added the black leather OBI belt and it brought the waist in just as we needed. To make it a little lighter and springy-er, we paired the soft yellow LA Made blazer and a very colorful Mishakaudi necklace. I get asked a lot about pairing accessories with busy prints. The key is to make sure that the piece you’re wearing doesn’t compete with the pieces your pairing it with. In this case the necklace, though intricate, is actually bold enough to stand on it’s own against the busy print of the dress.
When I saw this Jack by BB Dakota dress , I knew it was going to look amazing on Jennifer. The contour of this dress and the wider shoulder straps balance and shape Jennifer’s beautiful feminine figure. The skirt falls out and away from her waist which makes Jennifer’s more straight figure look curved and hourglass like.
The sun was shining so we couldn’t help but brighten things up with this BB Dakota Blazer. The shorter cut in the front angling longer in the back creates an impression of curve to Jennifer’s shape while the draped collar is flattering for her chest. The contrast waist of this Three Stones dress also creates and draws attention to the waist while the skirt falls out and away in an A-line just skimming her silhouette. If you notice the center front line of this dress it creates focus vertically which is slimming. Finishing it off with some sunnies and bright beautiful jewelry pulled this look fully together.
The sweetheart detail on this Three Stones dress is so flattering and feminine on Jennifer. The tonal belt draws in the waist and creates that hourglass shape we want while the jewelry doesn’t compete or take away from all the detail of this gorgeous dress. Lastly we used the cobalt blue in the dress as an inspiration to pull a Shiraleah handbag. The blues share a story while the print of the dress and the bag are of the same scale. But note that any kind of ‘skin’ is considered a neutral and can be worn with anything.
So whether you already have an hourglass shape or you want an hourglass shape, dresses are a great choice to fit and flatter your figure. Don’t forget that you can pair some Yosi Samra ballet flats or even a flip flop with most any dress to make it ‘running errands’ appropriate.
Tune in next week when we honor our Moms with a little Mother’s Day make-over.
