We love high heels as much as the next girl, but what we don't like is wearing them for hours on end. We've got some exciting news for our blog! Starting today, we’ll be posting a weekly fashion round up of the latest and greatest from Shop Adorn featuring guest blogger, Sara Dahlquist of DahlStyle. Sara is a Portland stylist who knows the ins and outs of fashion and more importantly, how to dress according to your lifestyle. She believes that clothing should fit, flatter, function, and above all, make you look and feel fabulous. And if anyone is perfect for the job, it’s Sara. She’s the best friend-shopping buddy that has your best interests in mind and will be completely honest with you. Whether it’s helping you avoid that frumpy frock or helping you realize that you DO look amazing in those skinny jeans, she’s your gal. So here she is with her hand selected picks for you!

That blinding light shining down from the heavens is called the sun if you, like many Portland locals, are not familiar or have forgotten. And every time that warm welcoming light shows, I tell myself, "I'm going to do my spring shopping ON TIME this year so I'm prepared for the exposure of both skin and toes". And every year I find myself totally unprepared. Sound like someone you know? Well here I am, at Shop Adorn, to help resolve your wardrobe whoaw's. I've personally selected and styled three outfits that I think are PERFECT combinations to own. All this so when the mercury hits 70 again..you will not only be prepared but you'll be looking and feeling GREAT!

If you follow me at all you know I'm OBSESSED with the Prairie Underground Denim Girdle. I'll always be honest with you, I wasn't sold at first. I thought, "Not another skinny that I can't wait to rip off the second I get home". But then the girls in the shop got me IN a pair and they were going to have to take them off my cold dead body if they wanted them back. And they've been ON ever since!

Not only do they stay on me all day and even after I get home, they are my 'go to' travel pants because they are so comfortable. And the styling, they are so flattering on just about every body type. Seriously, I've put these on my size 0 clients as well as my size 16 clients and they look equally amazing! Just a warning though, you won't be able to buy just one pair.

Your going to see this Prairie Underground Mothette Blouse later in this post because I love it so much but just check out how it shows off the natural contours the figure. I am always saying "DO NOT LOOSE the shape of your sway (the curve from your lower back to your bum)". It's so feminine and flattering. This blouse does just what you want it to do, it flatters your sway, won't hug you too tight but it WILL FLATTER! And don't get me started on the COLOR! Tangerine...THE IT color of the season. Instant style!

Was I mentioning the IT color for spring? Check out this amazing Amour Vert Alicia Blouse in Coral, the OTHER 'it' color for spring (is more of a soft coral/pink than shown). I have yet to find someone that this color does NOT flatter, it looks good on everyone.

The soft silhouette is so feminine but forgiving, falling out and away from the body. Pair this blouse with a dress slack for work, white denim for a baby shower or these adorable AND crazy comfortable The Shelby Board Short from Genetic Denim, to a BBQ.

And to stick to your casual look I LOVE these Yosi Samra Ballet Flats in Mint. A little unpredictability pairing the mint with the coral and brown really takes this outfit the next style level. Not to mention...they are SO comfortable. 'Wear them every day' comfortable.

Ever heard of COLOR BLOCKING? THIS is color blocking. It doesn't mean you have to wear every color on the rack. Here I paired the Prairie Underground Mothette Blouse in black which is a neutral (recognize from our first look but in black this time?) This blouse fits and flatters your figure like a corset but is as comfortable as your favorite tee shirt. I love the adjustable ties on the sides so you can customize...yes I said customize the length. Ingenious right!

Next I 'blocked' it with Kut from the Kloth Brigette ankle skinny in dark coral. I love the POP of this color and this coral will go beautifully with your navy's and teals, greys and well most any color. I love the ankle length since it's the most flattering 'cropped' style most any body type can rock.

And then once again the POP of the mint Yosi Samra Ballet adds interest and another element to our color blocking look.

Lastly I paired this butter soft and amazing Ms. Wood Slouch bag to finish off this look. I specifically chose the white because it continued the bold and crisp color story that the blouse, denim and ballet flats spoke. And white is SO spring summer!

So there you go, some ideas for you so you're fully prepared and looking great for when that bright ball of fire shows itself again...and it looks like that day may be today so don't hesitate!

Grand Re-Opening Party

Can we just take this moment to say how amazing our customers are? The re-opening party this past Friday was a great success and we couldn't have done it without all of our friends, neighbors, and customers, both new and familiar. With a two huge suitcases worth of Kut from the Kloth trunk show pieces, rolling racks full with spring inventory, and a giant jug of spiked lemonade, we were prepared as ever. It was definitely chaotic, insane, busy, etc. but in the best way possible. We were able to capture some photos thanks to Tamara, even amidst all of the running around and close quarters. It was a milestone for our Portland boutique and we were so glad to share it with each and every one of you!

Shop Adorn on NBC’s Grimm

If you've been keeping up on your television and more importantly, Portland's cameos in some big name shows, then you know that our rainy city has been the setting for NBC's Grimm. What you may not know, is that the stylists from the show frequented our Portland boutique last fall to outfit their actors. Many of the male characters sported fits from WeSC, Obey, and Bridge & Burn, as well as a few female characters that suited up in Quiksilver Womens. While the wardrobe isn't always the first thing viewers notice when tuning in, we were able to find some screen shots of the Grimm actors repping their duds from Shop Adorn. Season two is set to air this fall, but in the mean time, catch the rest of season one and look for us!

If you haven't made it over to the shop yet to see the post-rebuild makeover, then you have no excuse to not check out these beautiful photos that our dear friend Tamara Young snapped inside the store. After having the open sign up for only a week and a half, we already feel at home again thanks to the warm and welcoming support from our customers. With all of the congrats, hugs, high-fives, etc., it's almost been like a birthday week for Shop Adorn. And while we don't condone celebrating for extended periods of time (just kidding, we do), we can't wait to return the favor and throw a party for you. Eco Week: Agave Denim

Today we’re featuring a brand that hits close to him. Literally. Agave Denim is actually designed right here in Portland by Jeff Shafer and his wife, Lauren, both of whom draw inspiration from their surrounding areas. Agave is, in fact, described as embodying “West Coast Life.” The folks at Agave stands by their word and promise to produce in a sustainable way and use only the finest materials they can get their hands on. They’re all about making a product in the most authentic and ethical way possible, while manufacturing in the USA.

We love Agave for their incredibly luxurious and soft fabrics and anyone who makes it a point to create comfortable jeans gets an A+ in our books. Another standout quality of Agave is the richness of the colors in their denim. Whether it’s dark indigo or bright red, their jeans have that quality, saturated looking color. But while most other brands of denim require heavy use of chemicals to achieve this richness of color, Agave puts their products through the ozone washing process, eliminating toxic chemicals. They also use an enzyme wash, which is a more environmentally conscious way of stone washing jeans.

“Rather than using pumice stones, organic enzymes (proteins) are used that eat away at the indigo. Jeans finished using enzymes tend to be stronger than those broken down by traditional stone washing, as the fabric is not subjected to the same level of abuse.”-Agave Glossary

Eco Week: Amour Vert

One of the new lines we’ve picked up and are so excited about is Amour Vert, an environmentally conscious women’s clothing line based in San Francisco. Their mission is to provide sustainable and Earth friendly products that are incredibly stylish and affordably priced. Eco fashion has come a long way and Amour Vert is a perfect example of why.

At first glance of the line, we were practically giddy with the gorgeous pieces, in particular the silks. But Amour Vert doesn’t use the average silk. They use peace silk, since the silk we’re so familiar with has become unsustainable over the years due to mass production of the natural fiber. The peace silk process is a cruelty-free alternative, which allows the moths to emerge from their cocoons naturally rather than killing the silk worms.

They also use several other eco-friendly fabrics including organic cotton, bamboo, modal, and even recycled plastic bottles, which are crushed and spun into thread to create an ultra soft material. All of their clothing is made in America and done so in a way to create as little waste as possible. Going green never looked so good.
