I wanted to give Ken a look or two or three that he would feel comfortable but I wanted him to try some new ideas. He was more than game. Not a diva model at all.

We started off with a polka dot Bridge & Burn Shirt. Ken wasn’t into plaids so I thought this more contemporary pattern would work great. The dots are small so as not to overwhelm and the blue color is one that’s flattering on most men (this shirt is on my list for my hubs). We paired it with a fantastic pair of army green Life After Denim pants. What a great pair of pants! Wear them to work or on a date night (they went on Mary’s (Ken’s wife) list).

Next we got a little more daring and paired a couple of AMAZING blue shirts with a pair of salmon shorts by Original Penguin. Not the color men go straight to, but they look really sharp and original paired with a more common and neutral color like blue. I have to mention these shirts. The rayon and linen Bridge & Burn shirt to the left IS one I purchased for my husband. The drape on this special shirt is airy and flattering. The Original Penguin Polo on the right is one of the staples every guy should have in their closet. It’s cut slim so it’s almost impossible for it to look frumpy and the cobalt color again isn’t a boring blue, but one that will make your man’s eyes sparkle, blue, brown or green.

But if you’re more of a traditional kind of dad, then you’re going to love these RVCA shorts. I got them for my husband, who always needs a great dress short. No pleats, no cargo pockets… these shorts are stylish and classic. You’ll have them for years.

When we put out our hound dogs to find a Dad willing to be our model, we had an overwhelming amount of Mom’s who wanted to volunteer their husbands. There are some things in life we can live without. However, these are wardrobe essentials every woman must have in her closet, according to me.

Hard Tail Leggings

Why I love it: I’m all about comfort in the spring and summer. By fall I’m ready for denim again, but January through August you will most likely catch me in these. Bonus points for pairing Hard Tail with Hard Tail.

Why I love it: I wear these under everything. They are thick and opaque enough that I feel like I have some coverage. I can pop a blouse, tee, or sweater over it and I’m done. I sleep in my old ones as well.

Why I love it: My Yosi’s are always a no brainer. I’m on my feet all the time. Since I go from running around getting kids out the door to work, to running around with kids again, these are a must. They are so comfortable and still feel pretty. It takes the frumpy out of every outfit, every time.

Lacey Arnett of Jewelry by Lulu is an amazing designer and friend of ours, so we were stoked when she offered to come by for a Q&A. She threw on a couple of outfits (doesn’t she look AMAZE in them?!) and answered some questions for the blog. So, without further ado, here’s a another Q&A post for y’all!

Yourself in three words: Mom Of Three

How do you get inspired?: By being aware of and immersed in: creation, imperfection, sun, stones, color, city lights, wood smoke, subway tiles, radiance, road trips, texture, laughter, salt water, exuberance, and ethnicity.

A childhood memory that makes you laugh: hanging upside down on the monkey bars eating sour apples off the tree with my neighborhood cohorts. Note to self: eating apples while hanging upside down is not necessarily a good thing…

An amazing jewelry designer other than yourself: Jill Platner for her simple, organic yet sculptural jewelry.

What’s your latest fashion obsession?: Not that I practice it…but I love love the girls who can pull off extraordinary amounts of prints and colors all in one outfit so seamlessly…making every piece look like it was made for the other!

Your favorite outfit: Super simple black tank dress, a great pair of reef flip flops, preferably metallic, and a long lulu leather and stone necklace.

A trend you can’t stand?: No offense…but, I’d sure like to see the guys around town liberating themselves from their long sleeve plaid button-ups. Wow… flashbacks of growing up in North Western Montana where plaid and flannels were the uniform of choice for the local logging community.  I’m pretty sure the logging population hasn’t made a mass migration to Portland, but by the looks of it…they have!!

Summertime is best spent: Hanging out around the bonfire making s’mores and drinking coffee with my lovely husband and three sweet (yes, sweet!) and somewhat hysterical teenagers….p.s. no technology allowed!

A weird quirk about you: I don’t know if it’s weird quirk in Portland, but being Norwegian I am blessed with the adept skill of consuming Coffee from sunup to sundown and suffer no adverse affects. Other then the continued quest for my next favorite coffee shop and the fact that pinterest pictures of espresso make me drool.

Why do you love Shop Adorn?: The lovely ladies who run the joint of course!! With out them and their passion for their customers, Shop Adorn would not exist! That being said, their phenomenal selection of RVCA and QSW….because I like to pretend and dress like I live at the beach.

The fifteenth annual show was co-produced by adjunct professor & fashion editor Eden Dawn, Sarah Livingstone an apparel instructor at Ai, and last but not least, the fashion department head Sue Bonde. Students of the fashion marketing, advertising, and apparel design majors, other adjunct and full time professors, sponsors, donors, and volunteers helped bring it all together to make this show more innovative than the last.

Once again, another incredible range of inspiring talent from designers I see great potential in. I took way too many photos so it was painful to narrow down my favorites for this post. We are all excited to see where everyone goes from here. So prouda’ you, AI Portland designers! And yes, while I am a (soon to graduate) student there, my opinion is slightly partial to this show, but I think many can agree that it never disappoints.

It’s a fantastic ‘throw and go’ as I like to call, easy and stylish pieces. Great for a BBQ or night out with girls. The waist detail is flattering as is the angled pockets.

Ella Moss Lily Strapless Dress

Okay you know that occasion that sneaks up on you all the time that you have nothing to wear to… THIS is the dress you get to wear to it! The High School reunion (if you’re me) or the backyard wedding (if you’re ALL of my clients, so it seems). This Ella Moss dress can be dressed down with a denim jacket and Yosi Samra flats or dressed up with a strappy sandal and a clutch. LOOKS amaze-balls with turquoise…

Melie Bianco Saura Clutch

Speaking of…this Melie Bianco clutch is gorge! This can be worn day or night cross body or as a clutch. It will be one of those pieces that adds SO MUCH to your outfit you won’t believe how you lived without it.

And last, you all know I love to layer with jackets. I mean a great, fitted jacket can take a tank and jeans to a whole new level, effortlessly! Hello, Jennifer Aniston-esque. This Jack by BB Dakota jacket looks SO cute worn open and is SO flattering! And at $80 bucks it’s a steal! Wear over ANYTHING… literally. Do it. It will look great. Now that’s a great investment.
