Hey guys, I’m Michele Wright, a fashion and lifestyle blogger at WrightForMichele.com and a full time Designer/Stylist/Colorist for Columbia Sportswear. I’m over here today as a guest blogger flaunting my favorite printed styles at the Shop Adorn Portland boutique and giving you some tips and tricks on how to wear prints.

Floral prints, stripes and polka dots are sticking around this season. Knowing how to pair the unexpected can be an intimidating task but once you master this art, your potential outfit options wildly increase. Some quick guidelines:

1) Start by mixing stripes, polka dots and/or leopard prints. If you’re a newcomer to mixing prints, these are a great starting point as they are the more ‘neutral’ options. Go for a black & white combo if bright colors aren’t your thing. You can’t go wrong with black and white together.
2) Vary the scale of your prints. Pair larger scale or bold prints with smaller, less dominate ones. This will alleviate an overwhelming ensemble.
3) Choose prints within the same color family.

(psst! Need a lesson on your color theory? This little graphic is a fantastic reference.)

If you are still unsure about mixing prints, try the alternative; mixing your textured pieces. Combining lace, fur, knits and leather make for great potential outfit options.
