Gathering inspiration from 501 jeans, orange anything, guitars, democracy, literature, culture, bourbon, moody coffee shops, Radiohead, DIY and Seattle hip hop, a group of friends set out to transform headwear from a mere accessory used as an afterthought, to something more. For years the market has been flooded with the one-size fits-all beanies and hats that are branded to death with big, overpowering logos. “SO unnecessary” thought the Coal Headwear founders. Instead of focusing on gaudy and distracting branding, Coal Headwear focuses on creating a well-fitting, fashion forward and functional cap with only a dainty hint of a logo. Some of our favorite beanies from the Coal Fall/Winter 2012 collection is the bow-adorned Linette in Dark Red, and the sky blue Julietta.
While the fit and cute designs of Coal items are amazing, what I just can’t get enough of is the feel of the materials! I am definitely one of those textile shoppers who has to touch literally EVERYTHING before I buy it, so the soft and warm feeling of the Coal hats, scarves and gloves got me hook line and sinker! With products made of pure Mongolian cashmere, bamboo cashmere blend, domestic wool felt, and so on, you really can’t beat the material of Coal Headwear products like The Josie in Cream.
After ten years of redifining headwear Coal has expanded and grown into a well rounded men’s and women’s brand and carry much more than just beanies. The Fall/Winter 2012 line is littered with brim hats, headbands, scarves, and gloves. We love love love the royal purple of the Coal Naomi Headband, as well as the hip mobster look of the Coal Brighton hat and cozy lambswool of The Florence NW tube scarf.
