One day or another, we’re all bound to have a sort of love-at-first-sight connection with certain garments only to be disappointed by the fit, length, color, or what have you. That’s where places like Silhouette come into play for all your customization needs. Meet Julia GaRey (pronounced ‘gah-ray’), owner of Silhouette, a specialized alteration studio just a hop, skip, and a jump across the street from our Portland Boutique. Founded just about a year ago, Silhouette brings years of highly experienced tailoring and craftsmanship to clients seeking bridal alterations, restyling, and everything in between.

We love Silhouette so much that we send all of our customers seeking alterations straight over. We even offer $10 off the cost to alter a garment you purchased from our store if you take it over there. Aside from her obvious talent in sewing and design, Julia is also one of sweetest ladies ever. She even took some time out of her hectic life to stop by and let us get to know her a little better. Check out some cute looks we styled her in, all with clothing from our store as well as the Q&A below:

Q: Who is your style icon?
A: Camilla Belle. She is my age and always so polished. Everything she wears I absolutely love. If she ever wore anything I designed, I would absolutely die.

Q: If you had three fashion related wishes, what would they be?
A: Wish number one would have to be going back in time and working under Christian Dior; or just meeting him and wearing one of his designs from the New Look era. Wish two would be to abolish the wearing of leggings as pants. It is not attractive. Leggings are to be worn with tunics or dresses, not shirts.
Wish three would be a fully stocked walk in closet full of designer clothes and shoes that look gorgeous on me. I can dream, right?

Q: The very first thing you think of when getting dressed:
A: When was the last time I did laundry?

Q: Your favorite happy hour spot:
A: I wish I made it to happy hours. But I do really like Station on Alberta. They do half off bottles of wine on Wednesdays.

Q: You get to be one person for a week, who are you and what are you wearing?:
A: Alexa Chung, wearing Burberry, Miu Miu, and Chanel and carrying her Mulberry Alexa bag. I’d get to be a style icon plus be tall!

Q: The most embarrassing clothing item you own:
A: My robe. It’s purple and yellow fleece. Yes, very Harry Potter. And the worst part is that I make beautiful robes for the shop and just haven’t made myself a new one.

Q: The worst trend right now:
A: Backless or low armhole dresses and tops. Love them, but I always see women still wearing their bras with them. This is tacky! If you have to wear a bra, then unfortunately you should not wear these styles.

Q: The best trend right now:
A: Vintage or vintage inspired. Figure flattering dresses with subtle detailing and beautiful fabric and craftsmanship. Really can’t beat that
