Love it or hate it, June marks the beginning of wedding season! From delicious hors d’oeuvres to late-night dance parties at the reception, weddings are the highlight of my summer. But if you’re like me, the weeks leading up to the big day are filled with stress – and I’m not even the bride! Weddings are a prime location for photos with friends and family, so a great outfit is key – these photos will go down in family history. We’ve gathered our favorite fashion tips and tricks to help you get a head start on your look for the special day!

1. Opt for a Loose Fitting Piece. Weddings are respectful ceremonies (with epic parties after!) and there’s nothing worse than wearing a revealing, form fitted dress. Let the attention fall where it belongs: on the bride! Plus, you’ll be much more comfortable during the long ceremony and reception. Tight skirts and 5 course dinners don’t mix! The BB Dakota Danae Dress is perfect for a wedding! The maxi length is more formal than shorter dresses, but the strapless top screams party. Layer under a cute jacket or cardigan during the ceremony and you’re set!

2. Wear Worry-Free Accessories. We all have those pieces of jewelry. They look gorgeous and immediately take any outfit to the next level, but they’re so uncomfortable! Weddings definitely aren’t the time to take these puppies for a spin. Stick to lightweight jewelry that won’t tug on your ears during the long evening. The Lulu Jewelry Stone Bracelets are great alternatives to jingly bangles that might be distracting during the quiet ceremony. Also, choose a small clutch over a large tote – you don’t want to be the designated babysitter of everyone else’s items!

3. Don’t Wear White! This seems like the most obvious of all tips, but you’d be surprised how many ladies still do it! Summer is prime time for white sundresses, so it is easy to find a cute piece you’re tempted to wear. Don’t do it! Weddings are a time to celebrate, so show off your happiness for the newlyweds with color. We love the Julie Brown Milo Dress. It features long sleeves for total coverage and a flattering wrap! The print is just too fun!

4. Bring a Scarf to Transform Your LBD! Everyone loves to layer with scarves in the fall, but no one dares to wear them in the summer. With so many lightweight options, there’s no reason not to! A great scarf can double as a shawl to cover your shoulders during the ceremony or to keep you warm if the weather suddenly turns cloudy. Bright and patterned scarves by Subtle Luxury can also summer-ize your favorite LBD! Finish off the look with colored jewelry and you’ve just transformed your neutral black dress into a festive look suitable for summer!
